COTD: Math Language

Americans are very bad at math. An extremely small number are good at it. It is easy to manipulate a population when they can't even make change for a dollar without the cash register or calculator. Math is another language, the language of critical thinking and logic.

I've always thought that the humans were terribly conceited to believe that they could alter the long term earth climate. If we really could, why not make it a bit more temperate, especially here in the midwest. Singular events like a large volcanic eruption or a decent size meteor could plunge the world into a cool or dark spell for many years. A single year of worldwide crop failure would cause absolute chaos and famine. People underestimate the fragility of modern civilization. The monies should be spent not on guessing what the climate will be in 100 years, but preparations and planning for random events causing global crop failure or other more immediate disasters threatening the human race.
